AKN building

Hilversum, as the Netherlands’ media city, has many buildings that are used for broadcasting. The most striking of these belongs to AKN, the collaboration between AVRO, KRO and NCRV.

When the broadcasters decided to start working together in 1992, they also needed to build new premises to accommodate this venture. These plans resulted in the AKN building – a complex that provides working space and studios for the three broadcasting companies. The design by Hoogstad Architecten is a very light structure, created by using a considerable amount of glass. Around 1,000 tonnes of steel were needed to construct the building.
