The Agora Theatre – a colourful and distinctive landmark in the centre of Lelystad – was designed by the same team behind the iconic Erasmus bridge.
Lelystad’s centre is characterised by highly functional and, in some cases, rather plain buildings. It is a centre in need of revitalisation and that is precisely what the Lelystad City Centre Master Plan sets out to do.
The Agora Theatre forms an important part of this plan. UNStudio Amsterdam came up with a design that combines vivid colours with striking shapes. The extraordinary geometric forms are reflected on the inside of the building, where they contribute to the excellent acoustics. These unique shapes were made possible in part thanks to the 700 tonnes or so of steelwork supplied by Kampstaal Staalbouw.
