Muziekkwartier

Commissioned by the municipality of Enschede, the Nationaal Muziekkwartier (National Music Quarter) was built in 2006. This multifunctional building offers space for cultural activities and offices. Kampstaal Staalbouw supplied almost 1000 tonnes of steel structures.

Enschede is a city with a pulsating cultural heart. A heart that beats strongly within the Nationaal Muziekkwartier, which is home to various cultural stages and which plays host to a variety of educational activities and courses. The Nationaal Muziekkwartier is also home to music venue Poppodium Atak, the Wilmink Theatre and the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra – partners who collaborate with one another in various ways within this centre.

Multifunctional design

The building offers plenty of space for everyone. It was designed by Hoogstad Architecten from Rotterdam and boasts three multifunctional halls, offices and practice rooms. These have been built in the form of a ‘box within a box’, ensuring that noise does not cause any inconvenience. Thanks to a flexible layout, it is also possible for the dimensions of the halls to be varied. An open design incorporating a great deal of glass was chosen for the construction.
